Trains, buses and trams

Västtrafik, which operates commuter trains, buses, trams and ferries, offers services for travel both within Gothenburg and across West Sweden (Västra Götaland County).

Sweden has a rail network spanning the entire country. Some of the main operators include SJ, NSB, MTR Express, Öresundståg and  Blå Tåget.

Bus companies such as Swebus and Nettbuss offer long distance and express services to numerous locations.

Rent a bike

Bicycles (cykel) are a popular mode of transportation, especially in urban areas. In Gothenburg there are a few places where you can rent a bike including Bike Tour Gothenburg and Rental and Cykelkungen. The city also has a system Styr&Ställ where you can rent bikes from stations located throughout the city between 1 March and 31 December.

In Borås and Trollhättan you can rent bicycles through the tourist office. For more options do a web search using the terms “rent a bike” or “hyr cykel”, and include your location.

Hire a car

You’ll find car rental companies at West Sweden’s major airports and cities. Some of the major car rental companies include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt.

Taxis

You can either call and book a taxi, go to a taxi rank or hail a taxi out on the street. Some companies have fixed prices, but these can vary depending on the time of day and day of the week. Some of the companies operating in West Sweden include Taxi 020, Taxi Göteborg and Taxi Kurir.
